SedDB - PaleoStrat

image symbolizing crossing boundaries towards integrated and open data accessThe SedDB - PaleoStrat partnership is an example for crossing boundaries towards integrated and open data access.

SedDB and PaleoStrat are joining forces to provide a master database for marine and terrestrial sedimentary geologic data. The initial focus of this collaboration is on sedimentary geochemistry.

PaleoStrat is an emerging NSF-sponsored data system that captures the complete sedimentary geologic context of research projects in a suite of sedimentary, paleontologic, stratigraphic, geochronological, geochemical, and related data modules. Both PaleoStrat and SedDB are loading legacy data, but also are working with the community to provide the type and level of support necessary for user data input.

The SedDB-PaleoStrat partnership will ensure consistency and compatibility between the systems and facilitate the development process, by taking advantage of synergies, but most importantly it will enhance the utility of both data sets for the broad user community, allowing seamless access to both terrestrial and marine sediment data.

The Value of Partnerships
The SedDB-PaleoStrat partnership demonstrates the value of working closely with others to meet common goals. Continued working relationships with EarthChem, CHRONOS, and expanded interaction with GEON, Paleobiology Database, Pangaea, Strat.net, JANUS, CoreWall, Paleontological Portal and others will further the functionality, depth, and connectivity of the SedDB-PaleoStrat information system.
