SedDB welcomes your contribution.

SedDB is a community resource, and as such encourages investigators to actively contribute to the development of the SedDB system and the growth of the data holdings in the SedDB database. There are several ways to actively support the SedDB project:

  • Contribute your own data.*
  • Encourage your colleagues to contribute their data.*
  • Alert us about published data that have not yet been included in the SedDB database.*
  • Provide comments and suggestions to improve the SedDB system. arrow
  • Become a partner of SedDB. arrow

  • *We will accept all relevant sedimentary data. For its Development Phase I, the focus of SedDB is on the compilation of comprehensive datasets for three test-bed areas, the Eastern Equatorial Pacific, the Central American, and the Izu-Bonin-Marianas subduction zones. We therefore especially request your help to gather as many data as possible for these focus areas.

How to contribute data
SedDB welcomes contributions of geochemical datasets for marine sediments. SedDB will accept datasets for terrestrial sediments, but will in general forward them to the PaleoStrat data system, a partner of SedDB.

Datasets can be submitted in spreadsheet form, and need to include supplementary information about the analyzed samples (e.g. geographical coordinates, sampling method, lithology, and age), and the analytical quality of the data (e.g. analytical technique, lab, precision, standard measurements). Please contact info@seddb.org. SedDB staff will help you compile the correct information.

Drafts of the data submissions forms are currently available at the SedDB Standards page.

Send comments & suggestions
SedDB welcomes user feedback regarding every aspect of the SedDB system. This includes functionality and user-friendliness of the query interface, data analysis and visualization tools, data content, or web site structure and content. Your input is especially important during the test phase of new system releases. Please send your comments and suggestions to info@seddb.org.

Become a Partner
SedDB encourages data management and cyberinfrastructure projects to establish partnerships with SedDB. We see these partnerships as critical contributions to the advancement of an integrated Geoinformatics network in support of Earth Science research and education. SedDB aims to work with partner projects on establishing interoperability among systems to exchange and complement data and on ensuring coordination of development tasks to minimize duplication of efforts and best take advantage of synergies.
Current partner projects include EarthChem, the Marine Geoscience Data System, PaleoStrat, the System for Earth Sample Registration, CoreWall, and Pangaea.
